So you’ve decided to try your hand at article marketing. After all, how hard can it be to write an article, anyway? What’s so hard about promoting a blog post?

Well, it’s not hard. But there are a few things to keep in mind as you launch into your new writing adventure.

Set up a style guide for yourself as soon as you can so your articles have a cohesive feel to them. Creating this template and sticking to it will save you tons of time. This way you can spend more of your focused attention on crafting interesting articles that are people-friendly AND friendly to the Search Engines.

If you don’t feel you have the time or skill to write articles, think about hiring another writer or group of writers to create your content for you. Although outsourcing content creation can be expensive, you may be rewarded with an increase in your traffic simply because you are able to post consistently with the help of a pro or two.

Use whatever tools will maximize your efficiency, most especially on the promotion side. There are a number of directories out there that will submit your content across the internet. Some of these tools are free, and others charge a nominal fee. Do some research to see where the best value is for you. It’s a method worth it’s weight in gold in terms of gaining readers and building your audience.

Optimally, each article should use between 500-800 words. Limit your paragraphs to no more than 4 sentences long. Most directories follow the 3-5 sentence/500-800 word criteria for article submissions, so staying within it can help your article distribution process.

The rule is not so hard and fast when writing a blog post. You can generally keep your posts under 400 words.

Learn the ins and outs of your article marketing directory. Submission guidelines will vary from site to site. Some have different levels of how often you can submit based on your account balance or number of credits earned. So check these out before joining.

Show Where They Can Get More!

Another important tip for article marketing: make sure you include information to link back to your own site. This is a great way to get more people to read your article as it will appear in search engine indexes and improve your site ranking.

Place a knock-em-dead bio at the conclusion of every article. It should include your professional credentials and your website or blog link. Readers that like your article will want to visit your site. Articles where the author has included an “about me” section give the reader a feeling of being more connected.

Use anchor text in phrases for article marketing success. Anchor text is the highlighted wording in a phrase that is hyperlinked so, when clicked, the reader is taken to another URL. Your blog should include two or more backlinks; this will improve your ranking.

Speaking of ranking, you will need to gain a good understanding of Internet marketing and Search Engine Optimization. It is a bit of a learning curve, but don’t be discouraged. Knowing SEO will be key to boosting your article rankings to the top. Setting specific goals of who your target market is, how many of these people you want to reach, and how often you want to reach them will help you develop your keyword list and get you started on the right path.

Your written pieces need to showcase your personality. Your personality is a major component of your brand. If you sound like another author, or come off as robotic or academic, it could bring your credibility into question and have a serious negative impact on your earning potential.

Be original and let your voice come through in your articles. Your authenticity will draw in the reader even more than the bulk of your content. Your title is as critical as your article's main content. A boring title will act as though you are showing your  readers the door! Use your title to entice them to stay and read on. Make it reader-friendly and clearly related to the article topic. Including your article’s keyword here is essential.

Your articles should be entertaining, and instructive. GIVE VALUE. Don’t draw the reader in with the “sizzle” and then not deliver the “steak” in your content. There are plenty of scammers online that fill their articles with nothing but keywords, often not even bothering with punctuation, just to rank on the search engines. There is no value there – only irritation! Another blow for your credibility!

Writing articles can be a lot of fun. It’s even better when your readers are persuaded to purchase your products because of what you have written! The tips in this piece will help you with your article marketing and help you increase visitors and sales.
